Call Me Maybe? No.

My friends have finally moved their social time from day drinking to going out at night = dancing = I'm more than willing to join in!

Friday we had a champagne meeting at work. I didn't even have a whole glass, but enough to make me choose nap time over gym time.

So I stopped by Target on the way home (in an effort to stay awake and rethink the gym part) then headed home for a 1 hour nap..that turned into 3. I woke up to Laura calling asking something about Southwest and PTO. I have no idea. I was so dissoriented.

Around 9 Bri texted to see where the heck I was since I had assisted in peer pressuring him to go out with us...and then I wasn't even there. I threw on a skirt & heels, touched up my makeup, ate, then was out the door. When I got there I was surprised that it wasn't more of a shit show! Almost everyone had been there since about 4p. But it was still a pretty good show! Some guy called Taffan dumb...bad move. I've never seen her so fired up before! I'm not sure how to handle her like there, so I let B take over.

A little after getting there I was told that in 30min they were heading to a party at Aaron's house. Yeah, that's not what I signed up for...so I headed home and watched Inception. I could have stayed out with the other guys, but they looked like they were more interested in picking up girls than hanging out with me. Totally weird, right?

Saturday was my regular routein: run, macarons, gym.

Then Saturday night I met up with B, Brian, & Taffy so we could hit up midtown for Jason's bday.

On our walk over this guy yelled at Brian how he's the man because he had not one but three fine honeys. Yep. It was pretty funny.

We hit up Celtic & Pub Fiction. We drank, we danced. It was great!

A few things:
  • One trick that I've learned when out is to stand really close to your guy friend so that potential pursuers will not be able to tell if you are with him with him, or not. It was pretty successful and only a few strangers approached. The problem is when you are with a big group and they are all friends with Brian, so they are aware that he's actually dating someone that's not you, so they feel the need to try and chat me up. Ummm, no.
  • As a guy walks by me "Hi, I'm (name here, because I don't even know). What's your name?" I answered and shook hands. "What's your number?" Shoulder shrug. "Are you serious?" "Yeah, I literally just met you." "And this is crazy." "No." - shut down. I will give him credit for trying to work in 'Call me maybe?" and I'm sure someone else went for it, but not me.

  • Just because I'm dancing and Brian only refers to me as stripper does not mean you can dance on me. You can dance near me, that's fine. But DO NOT just assume you can touch me.
  • Some pocket sized guy tries to chat up B. She wasn't havin it. He keeps attempting. She gives Brian the look. So he becomes our bouncer and tells the guy that we are with him and we just want to dance so he needs to move.
  • The last song of the night was 'Too Close' (one of my faves!) but BriBri ushered us out like he was our father when we were still trying to dance!
  • "I will literally roll out of this car and die." Jenna, you are so funny. I had no idea!
They dropped me off at my car (Trust, I only had a few drinks and water most of the night because I was really just there to dance and had yoga plans in the morning.) on their way to the after party. I was so tired and my feet were swelling so I opted to go home. In my college days I had no problem staying up all night and still getting to work at 8. There was one week in the summer that we would stay up until 5a, then I'd go to work and class at 8a. I was probably more functional than everyone else because I was drinking water and not beer (eww-def not a beer girl) those nights.

Anyway. I got in my car and was turning on my ipod and selecting a drive mix when some guy (possibly homeless) noticed me, stopped in the middle of the street and started dancing for me. Hilarious!

Then I got home, watched Bridesmaids, read, then went to sleep. So really, I probably could have gone to the after party because I was up until after 3...oh well.

I really have missed dance parties with B & Taffy Tafferton (the origional heart hands vault members). So I'm excited for them to continue!

Awesome & Awkward Friday

Why are the weeks leading up to a holiday always the longest? I swear time started to reverse a few times.

As always, linking up with From My Grey Desk and The Bargain Blonde to share my fave 5 awesome & awkward moments from the week.

Awesome
  • Bonus BodyJam on Monday! I love to dance, so this was an extra bonus to the start of my week.
  • Remember how I bought Vampire Diaries season 1 and 2 a few weeks ago? I busted open season 1 and have been indulging in it all week. Delicious!

  • Made Reese's peanut butter blossoms:
  • B finally watched Hunger Games and liked it. Now if only I could get her to read the books so that she'll understand all of this and this.
  • This song:

Awkward
  • The hurricane shouldn't mess with Houston at all, but B figured we should have a backup/survival plan. That plan? water, tuna packs, cookies, board games, Harry Potter story time, and we'll have our wands ready. Bring it!
  • I had to call Marshall three days in a row before he finally answered. I don't understand why he wouldn't have been more eager to call me back when I'm always giving him advice on why he should study hard and try to avoid student loans, going to college, why drugs and underage drinking are bad, and why you should never date a slutty girl. Those are very important things to know!
  • This week I had two searches land on my blog for "idk my bff jess brother andrew obituary." If you were actually able to find it, then you are a google genius because I can't even google and get it to come up when I have the last name and date. Anyway....whoever you are, you can find it here.
  • I cried during the season finale of The Secret Life of The American Teenager. It was a rather heart wrenching scene, so I'm not ashamed that I have emotions. I'm more so ashamed that I watch this show and that I love it (and this is coming from an unapologetic Bieber lover). Most of the time it is pretty redic, but it has really improved since the first season. I swear each epp you could have a drinking game based on whatever the buzz word is. Last episode would have been 'pimp.' I would have been blacked out by the end.
  • This was probably the most shocking ep of PLL ever which was awesome. But this made it to the awkward category based on how loud I screamed and then how I felt like I couldn't trust anyone after this happened:

And I was like:

Can you relate? What was one awesome & awkward moment from your week? Any plans for the holiday weekend?

I Made The Front Row My Bitch

My back had been feeling like a normal functioning back for about two weeks so I've been easing it into exercise to make sure its good to go.

I had already been doing upper body weights, so it was time to start trying other things out.

First up: BodyJam. I didn't realize how much I had missed Jam until I took it. During my absence James and Stacy were added to the teaching lineup. I'd creeped on their class through the glass, so I was super stoked to finally get to participate. I would def have to say that Quality Life Fitness has the best Jam instructors of all time (all time). Actually, they have the best instructors for all of the classes.

Since that went well I added in lower body lifts. I could feel it working my lower back so I was really nervous of how that would feel the next day. Luckily the only pain I was suffering from was muscle soreness from not working my body out in that way in about two months. But the back felt good. success!

When Saturday came around I knew it was time to try out my one true gym love, Body Pump. After I got amped up on endorphins during Jam, I reclaimed my rightful spot on the front row for Pump led by Taylor. I went light on a few things that incorporated my back...just in case it decided to fall apart. Aside from it just being rough after missing so many sessions, it was also a success!
The funeral is back on!
I felt so exhausted but more satisfied than I'd felt in a long time with my workout. It's so great to no longer be limited in what I can and can't do because of injury.

And soon I will be tackling my last obstacle: the pole. Honey said she'd love to help me catch up so maybe I can jump back in with the group for level 4 since I was only able to attend level 3 once. My body feels scared.

Cap'n Crunch Treats

Rice krispy treats are one of my faves ever. I've made a few combos with that this past year. But then I thought why stop there? You can basically sub in any ingredient, add some marshmallows, and you are good to go! Well....except that one time that I made them with Chex...but I think it's because I over cooked the marshmallows. It takes a special skill to mess something like that up.

I had been craving some kids cereal so I hit up the aisle to see what I wanted the most that day. Cap'n Crunch won! So here you have it:

Cap'n Crunch Treats
2 tbs Butter
1 bag marshmallows
6 c Cap'n Crunch
  1. Melt butter in a large bowl - about 30 sec.
  2. Add in marshmallows and microwave stirring every 45sec until smooth.
  3. Slowly mix in Cap'n Crunch.
  4. Pour into a greased cake pan, let cool, cut, & serve.

"Are We Getting Kidnapped Or What?"

On our way home, the boys started talking about going to Aaron's to play pool. I love to play pool, but figured I'd let B decided for us. I was honestly shocked when she said "Ok" because it was wayyy past BJ House bedtime. So We headed to the heights to play some rounds.

Here's some of the things that may or may not have come out of my mouth during the ride:
  • Are we getting kidnapped or what?
  • I checked us in on facebook so my mom knows where I am if anything happens.
  • I'm going to text my dad your descriptions just in case you try anything funny.
  • I will not hesitate to break a bottle and stab you in the neck for self defense.
  • Are you going to roofie me? I'm not going to take any drink or food if you offer.
And I'm sure there were many others. I know. I'm such a peach. I don't know if they took me seriously or not, but I was mostly kidding.

Here's the deal. This was the first time I'd met these boys, and I know B had met Aaron a time or two before. But just because they are Brian's friends doesn't mean much. Brian is one of the nicest people ever and basically will turn everyone he meets into his friend (obviously if I didn't feel safe then we would have taken a cab home, duh). The next day I was asking B how he knew these guys and it turns out they had been friends for years and through context clues we concluded that they probably know each other from high school. And I obviously survived to tell about it, so it was fine.

We played two rounds of pool. I did pretty decent at first (I can't even remember the last time I played), but B & Aaron won. But the next round we dominated. I may have trash talked, and B would just laugh and say how funny and competitive I am. At least she knows!

After the second game everyone loaded up and Aaron took us home.

The next morning B and I went to freebirds for an early lunch (best recovery meal ever). It was a great time...until B saw a rat. She literally saw this rat jump from the floor to the table to the top of the deconstructed brick wall. I only noticed once I saw him scurry across the top of the brick. That thing was huge! We promptly left and I don't think I'll be visiting that particular location anytime soon. ick.
